We are entering one of my favorite times of year, the holiday season! That’s partly because I love hosting. I often end up hosting large gatherings of friends and family for holiday meals, and that usually involves lots of food and snacks. I recently tried a new combination that I knew I had to share. A perfect combination of sweet and savory, this Baked Brie with Apple Cherry Compote is sure to be a hit!
- For the baked brie: brie wedge, sliced baguette, and apple cherry compote
- For the apple cherry compote: olive oil, onion, garlic, thyme, apple, water, dried cherries, honey, whole grain mustard, and salt & pepper.
How to Make Baked Brie with Apple Cherry Compote
Start your appetizer by dicing your apple and onion into tiny pieces.
To start your compote, heat up the olive oil in a large sauce pan and add the diced onion with a pinch of salt and pepper.
Then using a microplane or grater, add your freshly minced garlic clove. I like to use a microplane for the convenience of getting that fresh garlic flavor really quickly. If you have some fresh thyme on hand, toss that in at this point as well.
Once the onion is translucent and the garlic fragrant, add in your diced apple.
Then add the dried cherries.
Stir in your honey and whole grain mustard.
Then finish with a bit of water, this helps to rehydrate the cherries and cook down the apples.
Once the water boils, bring the temperature to a simmer and let it cook down until the apples are tender and the cherries look a bit plump.
In a baking dish, put your wedge of brie in the middle and top with your apple cherry compote. Then toss it in the oven at 350 for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese is soft and gooey inside.

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees and place brie in a baking dish; set aside.
While oven is pre-heating, begin making the compote. To start, heat a small sauce pot over medium-high heat and drizzle with olive oil. Add in the onions, garlic, and pinch of salt and pepper. Sauté until onions become translucent, about 6-7 minutes. If you have a couple sprigs of fresh thyme, toss them in now.
To the pan, add in the remaining ingredients (diced apple through whole grain mustard) and stir well. Bring mixture to a boil then reduce to simmer. Cook down until apples become tender and cherries begin to plump up, about 15-20 minutes.
Pour apple cherry compote on top of brie then bake until brie begins to melt, about 10-12 minutes. Serve with baguette slices.
